DR. MONICA SAMANT

ACADEMIC IN CHARGE

Dr. Monica Samant has done her fellowship training in general ophthalmology under Dr. Suhas Haldipurkar.

She did her fellowship in Paediatric, Squint and Neuro Ophthalmology from L. V. Prasad Eye Institute. She further did her research fellowship in the University of Pennsylvania, USA. She has addressed several conferences and has publications in national and international journals.

Currently Dr. Samant is associated with Laxmi Eye Institute as a consultant in Paediatric, Squint and Neuro Ophthalmology. She is the also the Academic in- charge at Laxmi College of Optometry.

Mr. Rakesh Kaushal

Vice-principal

With over 15 years of experience in the field of Optometry, Mr. Rakesh Kaushal is a distinguished professional, serving as the Vice Principal at Laxmi College of Optometry. He holds a Bachelor’s (B. Optometry) and a Master’s (M. Optometry) degree, as well as the prestigious FIACLE (Fellow of International Association of Contact Lens Educators) certification.

Mr. Kaushal specializes in Contact Lenses and Optics, areas in which he has gained significant expertise through both his academic career and hands-on clinical practice. His work is well-respected across the Optometry community for its precision, innovation, and commitment to advancing patient care

He has made significant contributions to the field of Optometry through research, with several published papers in both National and International Journals. His research interests are focused on the education, the latest advancements in Contact Lens technology and Optics, and his work is often referenced by peers and students alike.

As Vice- Principal, Mr. Kaushal plays an instrumental role in shaping the academic environment at Laxmi College of Optometry, where he leads and mentors students, fostering an environment of growth, innovation, and excellence. His dedication to advancing Optometric education ensures that students are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the ever-evolving field of Optometry. He is committed to fostering excellence in academics, research, and clinical training, ensuring students are well-prepared for successful careers in optometry.

Mr. Soumik Dey

Lecturer

Mr. Soumik Dey is a graduate in Optometry from NSHM Knowledge Campus, Durgapur. He then trained at the Aditya Jyot Eye Institute, Mumbai.

He has attended many training programs and conferences related to contact lens, low vision, and sports injuries and has presented scientific papers in AIOC and Vision 2020.

Mr. Dey has been associated with Laxmi Eye Institute since 2008. He is currently a clinical optometrist and his areas of interest are sports vision, paedriatic optometry and orthoptics. He is also a lecturer at Laxmi College of Optometry and heading the Low Vision Aids department.

Mr. Suraj Shelar

Lecturer

Mr. Suraj Shelar is a faculty member and internship coordinator at Laxmi College of Optometry. He is currently pursuing a PhD after earning his Master of Optometry degree in 2023 from MGM School of Biomedical Sciences in Navi Mumbai. Prior to that, he obtained his Bachelor of Optometry degree from Dr. D. Y. Patil University, also in Navi Mumbai.

Mr. Suraj has gained five years of valuable clinical experience at Joint Vision Clinic. His research focuses on community eye care and comprehensive eye care. He is dedicated to advancing eye care through his academic pursuits and aims to make significant contributions to the field.

Mr. Ashwin Ankush Pawar

Faculty Member

Mr. Ashwin Pawar is a faculty member at Laxmi College of Optometry.

He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Optometry after completing a Bachelor's in Optometry from MGM School of Biomedical Sciences in Navi Mumbai. Prior to that, he obtained his Fellowship in Clinical Optometry from Sankara Netralaya, Chennai, and a Fellowship in Low Vision from Lotus College of Optometry, Mumbai.

Mr. Ashwin Pawar has gained almost two years of experience in the field of community and comprehensive eye care services. His research focuses on the quality of life in patients. He is dedicated to shaping the future of eye care by sharpening minds and enhancing vision.
