DR. SUHAS HALDIPURKAR, MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Dr. Suhas Haldipurkar is a renowned Ophthalmologist and a well-known Phaco Surgeon.

Founder Director of Laxmi Eye Institute, Chief Trustee of Laxmi Charitable Trust. Medical Director of Laxmi Eye Bank and Laxmi College of Optometry

He completed his medical graduation at Karnataka Medical College and moved to Mumbai for specialization in Ophthalmology and for his advanced training he went to Japan at “Clinical Institute of Ophthalmology” for his Fellowship in Anterior Segment Surgeries and to Germany for a Fellowship in Advanced Cataract Surgery and Phacoemulsification at Sir. Vincentia’s Institute at Karlsruhe

He decided to be in practice in a rural setting so that he could keep a good balance of professional growth and community service

An avid teacher for over 19 years, Dr. Haldipurkar has been involved in demonstrating and teaching advanced Cataract Surgery to practicing Ophthalmologists. Many Ophthalmological Societies have honored him with prestigious awards, citations and orations. Bombay Medical Aid Society conferred upon him their most prestigious “karmayogi puraskar” and “Certified Educator Award” by Asia Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons

He is one of the pioneers of Phacoemulsification in India and has actively participated in training young Ophthalmologists. Laxmi Charitable Trust under his guidance runs post-graduation courses like DNB, DOMS, and MUHS fellowship in Ophthalmology.

Dr. Haldipurkar believes in advancement with time, and hence he has been regularly involved with Clinical Trials and research in Ophthalmology. While doing this entire he has not swayed away from his mission in life, of being of service to humanity, because he firmly believes that service to humanity is service to God."











Dr. Rita Dhamankar, Advisor

With almost three decades of a gallant/magnificent career behind her, Dr. Rita Dhamankar heads the Glaucoma department at Laxmi Eye Institute and heads the Laxmi College of Optometry. She has topped the Master’s program at Mumbai University and Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine & Surgery. She has also been trained in Glaucoma at The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami.USA.

Dr. Dhamankar has been bestowed by Dr. Dastoor's Gold Medal during her post-graduation tenure. The RAO BAHADUR MANIAR Prize in Dermatology in her graduation & The Shiv Prasad Hardia prize at the All India Ophthalmology annual meet for the best paper in Refractive surgery.

At national and international ophthalmic gabfests on glaucoma she has been invited as a speaker and contributor, including the South East Asia Glaucoma Interest Group, & the World Glaucoma Congress.

Dr. Dhamankar is one of the first ophthalmologists in India to start using the Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, she is also involved in various drug trials for glaucoma for national and multinational companies.

She is the driving force behind the scientific research at the Laxmi Parivar & has also been responsible in getting the Institutional Ethics Committee in place.

DR. MONICA SAMANT, ACADEMIC IN CHARGE

Dr. Monica Samant has done her fellowship training in general ophthalmology under Dr. Suhas Haldipurkar.

She did her fellowship in Paediatric, Squint and Neuro Ophthalmology from L. V. Prasad Eye Institute. She further did her research fellowship in the University of Pennsylvania, USA. She has addressed several conferences and has publications in national and international journals.

Currently Dr. Samant is associated with Laxmi Eye Institute as a consultant in Paediatric, Squint and Neuro Ophthalmology. She is the also the Academic in- charge at Laxmi College of Optometry.


Ms. Shraddha Kadam (Faculty cum Course Co-Ordinator)

Ms. Shraddha Kadam, currently working as a Course coordinator cum Faculty at Laxmi College of Optometry, Panvel. She has completed her graduation and post graduation from Lotus College of Optometry in 2010 and 2012 respectively

She has obtained a fellowship in Speciality Contact Lenses from Shekhar Eye research, Mumbai and her research on Scleral lenses was also presented at the 8th Asia Cornea and Contact Lens Conference, Hong Kong.

MR. BHUSHAN CHARI, FACULTY CUM CENTRE CO-ORDINATOR

Mr.Bhushan Chari is currently working as a Centre coordinator cum Faculty at Laxmi College of Optometry, Panvel

He has completed his graduation from Lotus College of Optometry with an award of excellence in Optometric Optics in 2011. He has pursued his post graduation from Lotus College of Optometry in 2014 with a research in Sports Vision and Vision therapy. He has also completed his fellowship in Binocular Vision and Vision Therapy from Vision Aid, Chennai in 2015.

He has worked with Lotus College of Optometry as an Assistant Professor cum Intern -incharge and was a visiting faculty for post graduation program in ITM - Institute of Health Sciences, Panvel.

Due to his interest in clinical practice, he has been involved in Vision therapy especially in Paediatrics and special population

He has attended several CMEs, training programs, scientific sessions, workshops and has presented scientific research papers at 18th APOC held at Singapore in November, 2011 and at 19th APOC, Korea in 2013

Mr.Bhushan Chari is currently working as a Centre coordinator cum Faculty at Laxmi College of Optometry, Panvel.



Mr. Onkar Pirdankar

Mr. Pirdankar is working as a Visiting Faculty at Laxmi College of Optometry, Panvel. He completed his Bachelor's in Optometry from Lotus College of Optometry in 2008 and then worked at KBH Bachooali charitable ophthalmic hospital as low vision care specialist.

He pursued his post graduation from Lotus College of Optometry with majoring in Low Vision in 2010. Later in 2013, he completed his masters in Vision Science and Physiological Optics from University of Houston College of Optometry, USA.

On return, he worked with Lotus College of Optometry as an Assistant Professor. He is recipient of various awards and grants for academic excellence and eye care services. He has contributed in the field of vision science and optometry research too. He has presented various researches at national and international conferences and also has few publications in international scientific peer reviewed journal.


Ms. Prafulla Kuthe

Ms. Prafulla Kuthe is bachelor in optometry from Laxmi College of Optometry and fellowship in contact lens from Shankara Nethralaya, Chennai.

She has attended various conferences and training programs on contact lens, low vision and orthoptics. She has also presented papers at various scientific meets.

Earlier, she was a Clinical Optometrist and Contact Lens Department In-charge at Surya Netralaya, Navi Mumbai and Ojas Laser Eye Surgery Centre, Mumbai. She also was visiting faculty with various optometry colleges like Wavikar College of Optometry and ITM- Institute of Health Sciences at Navi Mumbai. She is member of Indian optometry council.

Ms. Kuthe is presently working with Laxmi Eye Institute as clinical optometrist cum incharge contact lens practitioner and trainer of all kinds of super- specialty contact lenses.

She is also the incharge of research management for B.Optom students at LEI and is a Visiting Faculty in Laxmi College of Optometry.


MRS. SARITA DESHPANDE DESAI

Mrs. Sarita has completed her graduation from Lotus College of Optometry in 2009 and M Sc Optometry from Chitkara University, Chandigarh in 2015 and is a fellow of L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.

Ms. Sarita is an Associate Member of ASCO and has also done FASCO in Clinical Optometry in 2015. She is skilled in refraction, orthoptic evaluation, ophthalmic evaluation and diagnostics and is visiting faculty in Laxmi College of optometry.

She has attended various optometry conferences and workshops on vision therapy, low vision and research & methodology. She is presently working as a clinical optometrist as well as Intern in charge in Laxmi eye Institute






Mr. Soumik Dey

Mr. Soumik Dey is a graduate in Optometry from NSHM Knowledge Campus, Durgapur. He then trained at the Aditya Jyot Eye Institute, Mumbai.

He has attended many training programs and conferences related to contact lens, low vision, and sports injuries and has presented scientific papers in AIOC and Vision 2020.

Mr. Dey has been associated with Laxmi Eye Institute since 2008. He is currently a clinical optometrist and his areas of interest are sports vision, paedriatic optometry and orthoptics. He is also a lecturer at Laxmi College of Optometry and heading the Low Vision Aids department.
